Taylor Vaughn of Mature Services Receives VISTA Award

Akron, Ohio (June 28, 2016) – Mature Services Inc. is proud to announce that on June 3, Taylor Vaughn, the agency’s Food Pantry coordinator and AmeriCorps VISTA Volunteer, received the Problem-Solver Award from AmeriCorps VISTA and the Ohio Association of Foodbanks. Chosen from a select group of dedicated volunteers, Taylor was honored with the award based on her exceptional ability to navigate issues and deliver creative solutions.

AmeriCorps VISTA, a national service program, sends volunteers to community food banks to support efforts to overcome hunger. The Ohio Association of Foodbanks assists in providing shelf-stable and protein foods to Ohio’s 12 Feeding America foodbanks.

Taylor takes great pride in helping people, and her positive attitude and ability to turn challenges into opportunities has significantly improved Food Pantry services. With heartwarming empathy and leadership, she has helped Mature Services in the fight against hunger in Ohio at a very crucial time. Today, food insecurity is widespread and growing. According to a 2015 U.S. Department of Agriculture report, Ohio now ranks third in the nation in households that lack the means to obtain nutritious food.

According to Taylor, when she learned about the Mature Services opportunity through AmeriCorps VISTA, she knew that working in a nonprofit agency’s food pantry would be a fantastic chance to experience community nutrition in action, and help bridge the widening hunger gap within the Akron community. “Working in a nonprofit agency has given me a benevolent satisfaction than can only be obtained through altruistic action. We really care about the cause and we are willing to go the extra mile to make a difference.”
