MEALS ON WHEELS OFFERS THERAPEUTIC MEALS THROUGHOUT STARK, SUMMIT AND WAYNE COUNTIES

Akron, OH (November 15, 2019) – Meals on Wheels of Northeast Ohio, a program of VANTAGE Aging, has expanded its menu to include therapeutic meals for clients in its three-county service area. Therapeutic meals are designed for individuals with a chronic medical diagnosis that require a more specialized diet.

Therapeutic meal options include:

RENAL: These meals are designed for individuals experiencing kidney disorders and in need of a low-sodium diet. The meals are frozen and delivered in packs of 7. The cost is based on a $5.75-8.75 sliding fee scale per meal. Example Meal: rosemary chicken with spring vegetables and cinnamon apples.

CARDIAC: These meals are designed for individuals who need heart-healthy diets. Meals are frozen and delivered in packs of 7. The cost is based on a $5.75-8.75 sliding fee scale per meal. Example Meal: chipotle meatloaf with green beans and red-skinned potatoes.

PUREED: These meals are designed for individuals that need an easy-to-swallow diet. Meals are frozen and delivered in packs of 5. The cost is based on a $5.75-8.75 sliding fee scale per meal. Example Meal: fish with carrots and pineapples, banana pudding, and yogurt.

Therapeutic meals are newly offered in addition to Meals on Wheels’ other meal options. Clients in either Summit or Stark and Wayne Counties have a range of meal types to accommodates their needs. From daily hot meals to packs of delicious frozen meals, clients and caregivers can rest assured that healthy meals for better nutrition are being delivered.

All meals are approved by a licensed dietitian. Meals can be delivered on a short-term basis, while someone recovers from a surgery or hospital stay, for example, or meals can be delivered long-term. In addition to home-delivered options, all three Counties offer congregate dining locations so that more mobile clients are able to dine together in a social setting.
