A Comprehensive Resource Site for Summit County Seniors
Akron, OH – The Summit Senior Coalition has announced the launch of GettingWiser.org, a comprehensive resource site aimed at empowering Summit County seniors and those with disabilities to help make getting older, better.
The Summit Senior Coalition is a collaboration of non-profit organizations and government agencies – funded by Akron Community Foundation – that work together to provide services to older persons not adequately served by other public and private systems. Through GettingWiser.org, the coalition can help coordinate a comprehensive plan of home and community-based care, all centered around individual needs.
Assessments are free to residents of Summit County.
“Based on our recent community needs assessment, we have found there are a lot of misconceptions out there regarding available funding for services, and especially about what Medicare does or doesn’t cover,” said Matt Reed, Vice President at Direction Home. “What we want people to understand is that older adults can, in fact, age where they choose, whether that’s in their own homes, a senior-based facility or where ever might be most convenient for them and their families. And they can do so in a positive way. The key is to do your homework and understand what is available. Getting Wiser helps people do that in a way that’s entertaining, straightforward and easy to understand. We want people to access information and engage in their future, and not get overwhelmed by industry jargon, or too many resources, and end up not getting the help that they need.”
In addition to senior-focused resources, GettingWiser.org will also feature articles of interest, area events, and educational information that will serve as ongoing outreach to this population and those that care for them.
