The name “Meals on Wheels” has, for decades, identified many unrelated organizations-including everything from nonprofits to government agencies to one-room mom-and-pop operations.
No. A national association, Meals On Wheels America (MOWA) exists for all types of programs and related vendors. Though Meals on Wheels of Northeast Ohio has a membership with MOWA, that organization has no authority over Meals on Wheels of Northeast Ohio, its operations, board or staff. Our philosophy is to put the needs of our clients first. Every decision made at Meals on Wheels is made in the best interests of our clients. Through this guiding principle, several important distinctions have emerged that set Meals on Wheels of Northeast Ohio apart from other programs.
- Meals are prepared fresh and reviewed by a licensed dietitian to ensure they are balanced for the special needs of our clients. Meals are delivered to your door by caring staff members and dedicated volunteers, guaranteeing a safety check for clients.
- Our client’s safety is of the utmost importance. Volunteers that deliver the meals daily are instructed to deliver the meal directly to the client or a caregiver, NOT to simply drop off the meal. In this way, we are able to ensure that the client is well and able to come to the door. In the event a client does not answer when a volunteer arrives, client services is notified through our electronic delivery system, a call is placed to the client to check on their wellbeing, if the client does not answer or there is a concern, then an emergency contact is contacted to notify them of the client's status.
