Mature Services Celebrates RSVP Volunteers at Annual Recognition Luncheon
Volunteers praised with “Lending a Hand” themed celebration on May 11, 2017.
Akron, Ohio (May 16, 2017) — Mature Services of Akron held their annual RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) Volunteer Recognition Luncheon at Guy’s Party Center on May 11, 2017.
Volunteers and community members, including keynote speaker Dan Flowers, President & CEO of the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, gathered together at the event to celebrate the more than 18,000 hours of service donated by volunteers in 2016. Many of the volunteers in attendance have been involved with RSVP for 20 years.
Cathy Lance, Director of RSVP, commented on the volunteers’ hard work, dedication, and generosity. “We are pleased to continue our tradition of honoring our volunteers. The work they do in ‘lending a hand’ is so important to the people they serve—their dedication truly personifies our theme.”
Keynote speaker Dan Flowers was chosen based on his exceptional history of contribution to the local and national hunger-relief community. He is the former vicechairman of Feeding America’s National Affiliate Council, and the immediate past Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Ohio Association of Food Banks.
Flowers praised Mature Services volunteers and their commitment to helping out. “Mature Services has been a premier partner of the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank for decades. Since long before I started this job 14 years ago, your people have been faithful servants to this community’s Foodbank. Because of the long term assignments you provide, Mature Services workers become part of the Foodbank family and their contributions have been incredibly valuable.”
As Karen Hrdlicka, President and CEO of Mature Services, stated, “Our collaboration with the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank has impacted multiple programs within our agency. They support our food pantry and Meals on Wheels programs and serve as a host site for our RSVP volunteers and participants in our Senior Community Service Employment Program. Each agency is made stronger and serves a broader audience as a result of working together.”
Sponsors of the event included SummaCare, the R.C. Musson and Katharine M. Musson Charitable Foundation, and the Akron Community Foundation.
