Now more than ever, nonprofit organizations rely on the generous support of volunteers to meet the growing needs of our community. At Meals On Wheels of Northeast Ohio, we are so grateful for our dedicated volunteers who help deliver meals to the homes of vulnerable seniors. We could not do this work without you!
While it is so important to make sure that no senior is left hungry or alone, safety is our number one priority. We’ve initiated procedures for delivering meals to keep volunteers, staff members, and the clients we serve safe through the duration of the pandemic.
Volunteers must wear personal protective equipment, including face coverings, while delivering meals. Social distancing delivery measures are also put into place. Clients are encouraged to set a chair or small table outside of their doors so that volunteers can deliver meals without any close contact.
Meals On Wheels volunteers are the backbone to successfully getting nutritious meals to seniors who are often isolated, living alone, and fearful of going out to stores due to the threat of COVID-19. They have committed themselves to safely helping their elderly neighbors during these difficult times.

Meet our volunteers
Ernie Adams

“I was lucky enough to retire fairly young and I needed to keep busy. I spent almost 40 years in the restaurant, so feeding people seemed like a good way to give back. I get easily attached to these people and try to go out of my way to make sure they get their food. My daughter-in-law and I even took Thanksgiving dinner to a gentleman a couple of years ago.”
“I expected my employees to be reliable at my restaurant, so I find myself feeling responsible for my route even on the days I’m not scheduled. I plan to be a driver for a long time. Tree is the best ‘boss’ I’ve had in my five years. You have yourselves a really good one with her.”

“Our participation with Meals On Wheels helps address our desire to be actively involved with our community, and also allows us to provide the basic nutritional needs of our neighbors. We enjoy seeing the people we serve each week. We are able to just remind each other that we all matter.”
