Mature Services Receives $50,000 Grant from GAR Foundation

The Grant Funds Will Help Summit County Seniors Age in Place

Akron, Ohio (11/6/17) – The Distribution Committee of GAR Foundation awarded Mature Services Inc. a $50,000 grant to fund the agency’s Homecare program.

Homecare is one of several programs offered by Mature Services, an Akron-based nonprofit that supports the needs of older adults. Homecare of Mature Services provides assistance with activities associated with daily living including: housekeeping, laundry, meal preparation, personal care, and wellness assessments.

Older adults are a vital part of the fabric of our communities. They are the watch dogs when we are at work, they are the drop in sick child care for a single mom, and they bring knowledge and experience to mentor others,” said Karen Hrdlicka, CEO and President of Mature Services. “With just small supports, older adults can age in place in their homes. However, many of those supports are not funded by Medicare or Medicaid. We appreciate that the GAR Foundation recognizes the value of older adults in our communities and are willing to fund services like homemaker and chore (deep cleaning) services that keep adults safe and healthy in their homes.”

Founded in 1967, GAR Foundation awards grants to nonprofit organizations in Akron, OH that work to advance education, economic and workforce development, basic needs, arts and culture, and nonprofit leadership.

The award from GAR will be used to assist the nearly 300 older adults who receive services from the Homecare program of Mature Services. The grant funds will support the independence of low-income, homebound people in Summit County.

“The grant support from GAR Foundation will help someone with multiple health challenges to stay selfsufficient in the community, “said Penny Holvey, Homecare Program Director. “The average cost associated with remaining in your home with our supportive services is about $2,000 per year, versus living in a nursing home for approximately $92,000 per year. This is a substantial cost savings to our customers and to the community.”

As the need for homecare assistance grows, Mature Services aims to provide high-quality services to help community members live comfortably at home.
