Akron, OH (January 29, 2019): Meals on Wheels of Northeast Ohio, a program of VANTAGE Aging, will cancel the majority of meal deliveries January 30th through 31st, due to the expected sub-zero temperatures on these days.
“The well-being and health of our clients is very important to us, but with the extreme weather, the safety of our volunteers and delivery staff must be a top priority as well,” states Ted Watko, COO of VANTAGE. “We took pro-active measures last fall to prepare for winter weather, and all clients received emergency packs of non-perishable food to save for use in the event of an unexpected closure.”
In Stark and Wayne Counties, all client meal deliveries will be cancelled for both days. Clients should utilize their reserved, non-perishable food in place of deliveries January 30-31. For clients who typically receive frozen meals on these days, the office will be in contact to re-schedule.
In Summit County, meals to individuals’ houses will be rescheduled. Clients should utilize their reserved, non-perishable food in place of deliveries January 30-31. Congregate sites and clients living in apartment complexes with multiple delivery stops will still receive their scheduled meal delivery. The office will be in contact with Summit County clients who will not receive deliveries.
Regular meal delivery for all clients in Stark, Summit, and Wayne Counties is expected to resume on Friday, February 1, 2019.
Please be aware that other VANTAGE Aging programs will continue as scheduled. Meal cancellation does not affect its other senior services.
