Funding from Akron Community Foundation Supports Summit County Seniors Desire to Live at Home

VANTAGE Aging receives a $20,000 Akron Community Foundation grant for Home Wellness Solutions program.

Akron, Ohio (January 24, 2023): VANTAGE Aging has received $20,000 in grants to serve more of Summit County’s most vulnerable population from Akron Community Foundation. Funds will be used to help seniors remain in their homes with independence and dignity.

Funding was granted for VANTAGE’s Home Wellness Solutions program, which provides small supports that help seniors live at home, rather than be prematurely or inappropriately placed in a nursing home facility. Home Wellness Solutions provides assistance with activities associated with daily living, including housekeeping, laundry, meal preparation, personal care, and wellness assessments.

In 2022, 7,309 hours of home health aide services and 1,447 hours of deep cleaning chore services were provided to over 170 older adults.

VANTAGE Aging offers a host of programs serving older adults across the state of Ohio, including: Workforce Solutions on-the-job training, AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP program, Meals on Wheels, and Home Wellness Solutions.

The agency aims to promote a positive perspective on aging and continue to address the needs of older adults as Ohio’s senior population continues to grow, The Ohio Development Services Agency projects Summit County’s senior population to peak in 2035 at about 22% of the total population, nearly 116,000 people.
