Vantage reappointed as the State of Ohio's only SCSEP subrecipient

SCSEP Logo

Vantage Aging has been awarded the Ohio Department of Aging (AGE) Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) grant for Program Year 2026. This 1-year agreement includes an annual renewal option for up to five years before returning to a competitive bid process.

For decades, Vantage has proudly served as the sole subrecipient for the State of Ohio, partnering with AGE to provide paid, hands-on workforce training and job placement support. Through this initiative, job seekers age 55 and older gain valuable experience while local non-profits receive crucial operational support.

Because federal SCSEP funding relies on annual appropriations from Congress, full funding over this cycle depends on continued support in Washington. We encourage our community to contact their federal legislators in D.C. to share the impact of SCSEP and advocate for sustained funding for mature job seekers. LEARN MORE

Beyond the Workspace: How SCSEP Delivers Comprehensive Support

Most traditional SCSEP programs focus strictly on basic skill-building, our program goes a step further by offering dedicated Supportive Service Navigators - a specialized level of care that sets our program apart.

When a job seeker in Franklin County enrolled in Vantage Aging’s Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), she faced a major barrier to her training and employment goals: securing safe, affordable housing. She was searching for a new home to accommodate herself, her young adopted son and an adult daughter who required extra care after surviving an assault that left her blind.

Her Vantage Supportive Service Navigator stepped in with critical advocacy. The navigator educated her on fair housing laws and legal protections for "grandfamilies" and intergenerational households, reassuring her that families with children cannot be unfairly turned away.

To expand her choices, her navigator researched curated options for Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) communities, focusing on family-friendly environments with the bedroom space and play areas her son needed. The navigator also guided her toward local Medicaid PRC resources to help assist with potential moving expenses.

Thanks to the targeted housing referrals, education and advocacy provided through Vantage SCSEP, she was officially approved for the apartment and successfully prepared for her family's move.
