RSVP Volunteers make a difference! |

Thank you volunteers! Your time makes a big impact at our stations and we are so appreciative of your work every day. The time you spend volunteering is worth so much more than the nearly $62,000 you saved our partner stations. You are valued. You are important. And we thank you! |

Steve B. & The American Red Cross |
Steve B., one of our Blood Transportation volunteers with the American Red Cross of Northern Ohio, felt compelled to share his volunteer journey! RSVP Manager, Tessa, connected Steve with the Red Cross last March. After learning about a variety of volunteer opportunities there, he signed up to become a biomedical transportation specialist. The Red Cross supplies about 40% of our nation’s blood supply. After donors give life-saving blood at Red Cross sites across NE Ohio, blood gets transported to the Red Cross lab in Cleveland for testing and processing, and is then delivered to local hospitals.
The job of transporting the blood is done by volunteers, in Red Cross vehicles. (The Red Cross also employs contractors to fill holes in the schedule. It needs more volunteer drivers!) After completing some training online and riding along with a couple experienced drivers, Steve began working shifts in April.
Steve said, “I really enjoy it. I pick shifts that work with my schedule. I enjoy getting out and interacting with people at the Red Cross sites and the hospitals. It’s an important program and I’m proud to support it.” Volunteers must have a valid state driver’s license and proof of insurance, a clean driving record, and the ability to lift up to 45 pounds. They are asked to work two to four shifts per month (generally four to six hours per shift). Contact Tessa if you'd like to volunteer with the Red Cross!

RSVP volunteer starts free legal clinic at ACCESS |
Tom Mussara is a retired attorney who has been volunteering through Vantage Aging’s AmeriCorps Seniors Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) for more than four years. He enjoys supporting a variety of nonprofit organizations, including ACCESS, Inc., an emergency shelter serving women and children.
While volunteering at ACCESS, Tom recognized a need for legal assistance among the women staying at the shelter. He reached out to Community Legal Aid, an organization that provides legal advocacy and assistance to individuals experiencing poverty and helped establish a free legal clinic at the shelter. Through his initiative and commitment to service, Tom is helping ensure that women at ACCESS have access to valuable legal resources and support. |

Celebrating an outstanding volunteer |
One extraordinary volunteer who has been part of RSVP for nearly three years is Theresa Murphy. Theresa volunteers at the Delores H. Bland Senior Day Center and Heartfelt Tidbits, where she shares her time, kindness and dedication with those she serves.
In August, during National Senior Citizens Month, the Delores H. Bland Senior Day Center held a special Senior Awards Recognition Day to celebrate and honor the individuals who make a meaningful difference at the center. We were thrilled to see Theresa recognized with the Outstanding Volunteer Award in appreciation of her dedication, hard work and unwavering willingness to serve our seniors.
We are so proud of Theresa and grateful for the compassion and commitment she brings to the seniors in our community just like so many other RSVP Volunteers! Congratulations, Theresa! |
